Integration, resource management, and reflection

The control supertask's primary responsibility is the smooth integration of the remaining supertasks in the theory. Since supertasks can act in a more-or-less autonomous fashion, some method of control is necessary to ensure that all of them are providing a coordinated effort. This helps to ensure that comprehension, if possible, occurs quickly and in the most efficient fashion. An important aspect of this smooth integration is the proper allocation of cognitive resources, which this supertask is also responsible for. In the current implemented version of the theory, the only behavior which is modeled is that of reading. As a result, there is actually little need to manage resources; if the system was a more general-purpose cognitive agent, then this would become a definite requirement. Finally, since control is positioned in the cognitive architecture in such a way as to be uniquely aware of the functioning of the other supertasks, it is also the   responsibility of this supertask to provide metareasoning. In other words, the reasoner will often need to reflect on its own performance; control has access to the type of information needed to make this reflection possible.
