One must be an inventor to read well.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
Chapter 1 presented an overview of
the claims being put forth by this research; in part, the claim
hierarchy will answer the question of how a reasoner
performs the cognitive act of reading.
However, to develop the theory, it is necessary
to fully understand the problem of reading, for how
one understands the problem will constrain potential
solutions.
First, some basic definitions need to be presented in order
to ground the rest of this presentation.
