Run Levels

It gives you different ways (graphical, no-graphical) to start your Linux session.
It gives you different ways to stop our Linux session.
Depending on your run level, different processes are started or stopped in a particular order.

Run Level	Result
0	Halt
1, S, emergency	Single-user mode. You are (by default) root when using this run level. Usually used to do maintenance.
2	Multi-user without networking and no X-Windows
3	Multi-user with networking and no X-Windows
4	This can be defined by the user. As a default, it is the same as run level 3
5	Multi-User with networking and X-Windows started
6	Reboot
